Parent Guidelines for Selecting Instruments

Parents : While department store instruments or “internet specials” appear attractive, BUYER BEWARE!!! These instruments are typically of VERY LOW QUALITY and are IMPOSSIBLE to repair.

The following is a list of GOOD, RESPECTABLE instrument brands. Please stick to this list as closely as possible when selecting an instrument for purchase. You may contact your Band Director, who is more than happy to offer advice on this matter, by calling 928-4496, or e-mail lhouck@laca.org or lhouck@lancerband.net

Flute: Gemeinhardt, Armstrong, Yamaha

Clarinet: Buffet B12, Buffet E11 (Wood), Selmer, Yamaha

(All Clarinets will need a Vandoren B45 Mouthpiece, and at least three #3 Rico Reeds)

Saxophone: Selmer AS300, Bundy II, Yamaha YAS23, Vito, Jupiter

(All Saxophones will need at least three #2 1/2 Rico Reeds)

Trumpet: Bach, King, Conn, Benge, Getzen, Jupiter (with 7C Mouthpiece)

French Horn (F): Getzen, Conn

(All French Horns will need to purchase a Holton Farkas brand mouthpiece, size MDC)

Trombone: Bach, King, Conn, Benge, Jupiter, Blessing (with 6 1/2 AL Mouthpiece)

Baritone: Bach, King, Conn, Jupiter (with 6 1/2 AL Mouthpiece)

Tuba: All Tubas need a Conn Helleberg 7B Mouthpiece

Percussion: All percussion kits will include a Drum Pad and Bells
